A 4-Week Introduction to Strength Training
If you’ve always wanted to become stronger but haven’t known where to begin, this course is for you.
Over four one-hour sessions I’ll teach you the principles of safe and effective strength training in the relaxed surroundings of my personal training studio in Haywards Heath.
Whether your goal is to improve your health, become more confident, prepare for my weekly Strong For Life classes or simply learn how to exercise safely, this course provides the perfect starting point.
Sessions are available on either a one-to-one or two-to-one basis.
Is This Course Right for You?
This course is ideal if you:
- Would like a gentle introduction to strength training before joining the weekly Strong For Life classes.
- Have never really done strength training before.
- Feel unsure where to start or confused by the conflicting advice online.
- Don’t enjoy the thought of joining a gym.
- Have an old injury, arthritis or another health condition and would like professional guidance.
- Want to learn how to exercise safely and confidently.
- Are considering personal training but would like to see whether we’re a good fit before committing to longer-term coaching.
What We’ll Do Together
Before we begin, we’ll have a telephone consultation to discuss your goals, your current level of fitness, any previous injuries or health conditions, your exercise experience and what you’d like to achieve.
This gives me the opportunity to tailor the course specifically to you.
Over the four sessions I’ll introduce you to the principles of strength training and teach you exercises that are appropriate for your current ability.
We’ll cover things such as:
- Safe technique.
- Good posture and movement patterns.
- Strength exercises using the appropriate methods and equipment.
- Balance and mobility work.
- How to progress safely.
- How to build a simple routine you can continue on your own.
Every exercise can be adapted to suit your ability, so there is never any pressure to keep up with anyone else.
This course isn’t about “feeling the burn” or pushing yourself to exhaustion.
It’s about learning good technique, moving well, building confidence and developing strength that will benefit you for many years to come.
Train With a Friend
Many people enjoy learning alongside a friend or partner.
Training together often provides extra motivation, encouragement and accountability, whilst still allowing me to give each of you individual guidance.
If you choose the two-to-one option, it’s generally best if you’re of a similar ability so that we can progress together comfortably.
A Note About Footwear
To help keep the studio clean for everyone, I ask that outdoor shoes aren’t worn in the training area.
Please bring a pair of clean indoor shoes, or you’re very welcome to train in socks.
For most people, thin, flat-soled footwear provides better stability during strength training than heavily cushioned trainers.
What Happens After the Course?
By the end of the four weeks you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to continue your strength training in whichever way suits you best.
You might decide to:
- Join my weekly Strong For Life classes.
- Continue with one-to-one personal training.
- Combine both.
- Train independently at home or in a gym.
Many people also like to book an occasional session with me every few months so I can review technique, answer questions, introduce new exercises or update their programme.
There is absolutely no obligation to continue after the course. My aim is simply to give you the confidence, skills and understanding to enjoy strength training safely for many years to come.
